DRDAR MEC OFFICIALLY OPENS A NEWLY BUILT SHEEP SHEARING SHED AT MCAMBALALA VILLAGE IN INTSIKA YETHU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

Eastern Cape DRDAR MEC Xolile Nqatha handed over a newly built sheep shearing shed to the community of Mcambalala Village in Intsika Yethu Local Municipality. This is part of our efforts to accelerate rural development initiatives that create an environment that enables our people to attain economic freedom.

The Eastern Cape is the largest wool producing province in the country with 34% of the national wool clip coming from this province and 17 million kg of that is produced by communal farmers.

“As the department, we are working hard to improve the conditions that our farmers are working under so that they can produce for commercial and international markets.  That is why we are here today – to ensure that the farmers in this area get the best infrastructure that will allow them to increase their profits.

This R980 000 structure will not only be used for shearing but has a dipping facility that will ensure disease such as foot and mouth are prevented.” said MEC Xolile Nqatha addressing the community.
