The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform is holding a two-day
Eastern Cape Provincial Cannabis stakeholder engagement. The engagement
aims to kick-start the implementation of the pronouncement made by Hon. Premier
Mabuyane in his 2019 State of the Province Address regarding discussions and
dialogues around cannabis. With various stakeholders converging in one place to
share information, best practices and ideas that will result in a roadmap of how the
Province will unlock potential in making Cannabis a mainstay in the economic growth
of the Eastern Cape Province.
In her welcoming remarks, DRDAR MEC Nomakhosazana Meth thanked the Eastern
Cape Premier for leading and engaging in vital discussions around cannabis and
Hemp within the province. “This plant has existed for about 12 000 years. It is about
time that we focus on it to revitalize our rural economy. As we do that, we must not forget
youth and women as we begin these discussions on wealth creation”, said the MEC.
